Our Story

Long before spreadsheets, digital assessments, and nationwide coverage, there was a workshop floor, the smell of fresh paint, and a craftsman who understood vehicles from the inside out.

Rod Hyland didn’t begin his career behind a desk - he started on the tools. Trade-trained as a panel beater and car painter, Rod built his early years on precision, pride, and problem-solving. That hands-on foundation led him to own his own panel shop, followed by a successful venture in auto spares and dismantling.

In 1993, in Auckland, Rod stepped into the world of assessing with Wayne Jones & Associates, bringing with him something different - real world technical understanding. He quickly established a reputation in heavy motor assessing, eventually becoming a partner and a trusted name in the industry.

Building Something of Their Own

In 2009, Rod and Fiona made the move north to Whāngarei - and with it, the decision to build something of their own.

That decision became Northland Loss Adjusting, which was later rebranded as Nationwide Assessing Limited.

What began as a small, locally focused operation grew into a respected national business supporting insurers across New Zealand. Through consistency, technical expertise, and a genuine commitment to doing the job right, they built a tight-knit team dedicated to assessing, managing, and resolving claims when it mattered most.

Their reputation wasn’t built on noise - it was built on reliability.

A New Chapter - Same Values

On 1 March 2026, a new chapter began.

Ownership of the business was proudly taken on by Dallas and CJ Telford - continuing the legacy established by Rod and Fiona, with a clear and forward-looking vision.

Dallas brings over 15 years of insurance experience with a leading New Zealand motor insurer, where he played a pivotal role in building their assessing function from the ground up. He later progressed into senior leadership as Head of Claims and Assessing, overseeing the integration of both functions to deliver stronger, more efficient outcomes for customers.

With a trade qualification in mechanical engineering and deep expertise across the panel and paint sector, Dallas combines technical precision with strategic claims insight - forming the backbone of the business today.

CJ brings a complementary dimension to the business, with a background in wellness and marketing. Her experience enhances how the business connects with clients, supports people and builds a brand grounded in trust, clarity, and care. CJ ensures the business not only performs at a high level, but genuinely supports the people it works with.

Together, this combination of technical excellence and human-centred thinking creates a more complete, modern assessing service.
